About Us

Here at Shay Lane Stables, we pride ourselves on our ability to instil confidence into our riders. We believe that having confidence in your own abilities is one of the keys on your way to becoming a competent and capable rider.

We have enjoyed tremendous success in the showing profession: we've competed at both of the highly prestigious Horse of the Year Show and Olympia, at the British Show Pony Society, and internationally - most notably in Germany. We are well respected on the showing circuit and so we have the contacts and expertise to help you achieve your goals in the showing world.

Here at Shay Lane Stables, we provide lessons for complete beginners to those looking to compete. We provide private lessons during the week and on Saturdays, and group lessons at weekends.

We have experience at taking horses for schooling and preparing for sale, ensuring your horse is sold to a good home whilst being kept in a relaxed and friendly environment. As well as lessons, we provide a variety of livery services to suit your needs.

Alison Yates - Yard Manager

I've grown up around horses and the showing circuit and so have the knowledge and experience to succeed in that environment. I have gone through the ranks, starting with Pony Club and then progressing to being successful at HOYS and Olympia. I currently own 2 of my own horses, which I am hoping to get back out onto the showing circuit this season. I am also heavily involved in the judging scene, both at local and county shows, and I have recently become an approved HOYS Judge for CHAPS Championships.

Shirley Yates - Proprietor

My interest in horses started at an early age. I first came to Shay Lane Stables when I was 19, and I've since gone on to take over the running of the business. One of the highlights of my career was breeding a horse, called Anzac, which was shortlisted to represent Team GB at the Olympics, and also having the Whitakers join us for jumping sessions in the past.  I enjoy my teaching and watching showing and show jumping classes.
